The last vacant unit in the building that was formerly Footlocker will be a Virgin Media store, it was revealed today.

According to signage being erected this afternoon, the new shop will open in July.

The store will offer Brixton shoppers a range of mobile phones, internet and broadband packages.

It joins the army of mobile phone and media shops that line Brixton Road between Acre Lane and Atlantic Road.

  1. Strange how Brixton is becoming both more homogenised and characterful at the same time. For every interesting new place that opens up in the market, by the Rec, or up the hill, there’s a flat-packed yawn-store being bolted together on the high street.

That said, though, the high street is gone already, isn’t it? It’s all so characterless and depressing that one more unit covered in shiny logos isn’t going to make any real difference. I date the demise of Brixton High Street to the day Red Records shut down. Now that was a sad day.

  2. And we finally have full house. It could have been worse, it could have been a Sainsbury. Oh wait ….

  3. This is utterly ridiculous! How often do people need to visit a phone shop now that most people are persuaded onto 2 year contracts. We need shops that are visited on a regular basis for daily essentials not a high street with just phone shops. I suppose Virgin Media couldn’t stand the thought of being the only phone company not represented in Brixton. How very depressing!
