Lambeth removes Guyana Roti van from Station Road, Brixton

Officers from Lambeth council today removed the well-known Guyana Roti caravan from its pitch in Station Road, Brixton.

It is not yet known where the caravan was taken, though it believed to be going into storage.

The move comes after the van’s owner was given 21 days notice to leave by Lambeth council last month.

Update to follow.

  1. Could any one tell me if the fantastic Maureen has a new home?

Her roti’s are the best on this planet and I miss having a nice chat with her

    Thanks

    Ben

  2. Would anyone be willing to talk on camera talking about Maureen and her Rotis? We’re trying to get in touch with her as we’re filming in Brixton on Tuesday and would really love to feature her. Ideally we’d like someone to come and buy a roti with our presenter, talk a bit about Brixton’s food culture and then talk a bit with Maureen about what she does.

    • Hi Solomon, can you update me as to where I will find Maureen’s stall at the moment? I usd to live in Camberwell, now a countryside dweller, but I’m coming in to London on Friday and want to come and try Maureen’s legendary roti.

  3. This is disgusting. Maureen and her van was a trademark spot in Brixton and gave it some of the life and soul we all love about Brixton.

Lambeth council should be ashamed and it makes me wonder just how long till they remove the others?
Disgusting, truly low shot and disgusting!

  4. We’ve found her! Not in her van at the moment but she’s in one of the stalls in the passageway underneath the train station. Asked us to say that she’s there at the moment but may be moving around so if you do want to check where she is to call her on her mobile: 07946885146. She’s back!!!

  5. Just another move to purge Brixton of small businesses to make room for the generic shops that make the “Brixton Square” crowd happy. The tourists in the VIllage and the hipsters moving into the area don’t eat from Roti vans, that would be beneath them…

  6. Too easy to pick on the little guy (or woman) sometimes I fear. Would Lambeth Council take such swift and punitive action against a corporate it had issues with I wonder? It was a good place to buy a roti as well.

  7. Such sad news, she’s a lovely lady and her food is fantastic. A big loss to Brixton and the whole community. Shame.

  8. This is a terrible move by Lambeth. As I understand it Maureen was in the process of sorting out the issues with her immigration status. I know for a fact there were people helping her with this. Couldn’t have Lambeth left the van there while the process was ongoing? Maureen and her blue van have contributed so much to the Brixton community and they deserve much better than this. I’m upset and really bloody angry.
