Lambeth Council could face a further 20% cut to its budget from central government, a move that would “devastate” local services, council leader Steve Reed has warned.
Speaking at a full council meeting last night, Cllr Reed (Lab) said he had heard “rumours” that the Department for Communities and Local Government was planning “a further cut in excess of 20%.”
“That would devastate services that our residents rely on,” he said.
Also at the meeting, Cllr Paul McGlone (Lab) warned of a future funding gap of between £25m and £35m as government funding is squeezed and council tax income does not rise to compensate for this.
However, Cllr Reed praised the council’s financial management so far, saying the council’s finances were “more stable than at any point in living memory.”
I suggest that Lambeth Council hire General Lee Jasper so that he can initiate a ”debate”. That’ll fix the problem. Honey glazed triples all round! Cheers!!
