Brixton residents Sam Mould and Liz Holt have embarked on an intrepid cycling expedition to raise money for the local charity Wheels for Wellbeing.
The physiotherapists, who will be cycling almost 4,000 miles from North Cape in Norway to Tarifa in Spain, flew out to the Arctic Circle on June 30th and are expected to complete their journey by the end of August.
Although they are both keen cyclists, neither of the flat-mates has ever embarked on such a challenge. They hope to raise £4,000 for Wheels for Wellbeing, which promotes cycling for disabled people and provides a ‘fun and safe cycling experience’.
Sam Mould, physiotherapist, said: “We were joking about how we could see more of Europe and before we knew it we’d hatched a plan that will take us through six borders and seven countries!
“We love being on our bikes and we’re passionate about people having the opportunity to increase their health and wellbeing with exercise. We’re thrilled that we can use our trip to support the work of Wheels for Wellbeing.”
She added: “We were really impressed when we visited one of their regular Monday sessions at Herne Hill Velodrome. It was a joy to see so many people cycling who might not otherwise have the opportunity, and being able to enjoy doing something fun outdoors.
“The charity relies on funding and donations to provide these sessions and a wide range of cycles so anyone can overcome barriers to cycling. We’d love people to sponsor us and support this brilliant cause.”
