Free arts workshops for young people in Brixton

Newly formed community arts campaign Our Brixton are recruiting young people for free arts workshops.

They will be led by local rapper and playwright Potent Whisper.

Potent has been organising and delivering youth arts projects in Lambeth for the past three years and has been commissioned to deliver workshops by The British Council, Raw Material, Pearsons Education Publishers and The BRIT School, in locations from London to Sudan.

“The Art of Change” workshops will take place at The Rotunda Hall at Cressingham Gardens, from 1 pm to 5 pm on May 23 and 30 and June 6 and 13 and are for young people aged 11 to 16.

Potent said: “The workshops have a general theme of ‘change’ and so it was important for us to hold them at one of the locations being directly affected by the gentrification of the area.”

Taking part in The Art of Change is an opportunity for young people in Brixton to:

Develop skills in various art forms and transferable life skills, explore the current changes in Brixton through art and create individual and group arts pieces with professional artists/workshop facilitators.

The workshops and tutors are: Theatre and Performance with Plunge Theatre, Singing and Song Writing with Fola, Poetry and Rap with Potent Whisper and Beatboxing with Essence

To reserve your free place now you can email OurBrixton@gmail.com or telephone 07900 168 076.
