One of the contestants appearing on the BBC’s talent show The Voice next Saturday lives in Brixton. Lara Lee – better known locally by her stage name Floetic Lara – is 29 and works as a part-time youth worker for local charity Raw Material.

Lara started her performing arts career as a spoken word poet, with early stage experiences at the former Brixton Art Gallery’s open mic nights. She’s started singing more recently and was encouraged to enter The Voice by friends and family.

“I wanted to challenge myself,” said Lara on her decision to enter, “it was a long process getting to the TV auditions – I had to get through four other rounds first.” On Saturday you can watch her singing numbers from hit musical Grease.

Now in its fourth series, The Voice currently attracts around 9 million viewers each week, and is one of the BBC’s most watched programmes. The current series is still at the blind auditions stage, where judges will.i.am, Sir Tom Jones, Rita Ora and Ricky Wilson sit with their backs to contestants and decide whether they will take them under their wing for the next stage based on their voice alone.

Tune in to The Voice on BBC One at 7.15pm this Saturday to catch Lara Lee (aka Floetic Lara) in action.
