Some of Lambeth’s most athletic residents are gearing up for the event of the summer: the Brixton Bolt 2013.
Originally inspired by the 2012 Olympics, which saw Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt sprint to victory, this event aims to find the fastest man, woman and child in Brixton, giving everyone the opportunity to showcase their talent and skills.
The first ever competition was held last year on October 27th, however despite the cold weather conditions, it was such a success that the organisers have decided to hold another event on July 28th 2013 at 1pm. Bickles, the White Horse and Satay bar are just some of the local businesses sponsoring the event.
Sharon Phillips, Bickles co-owner, said: “I thought it was a good event last year. It got the people out with all the hype with Usain Bolt and the Olympics.
“We get a lot of requests now. We supplied Jerk chicken to the Leander Road street party, and to Hootananny. We just want to support the community to do a range of things in Brixton.”
She added: “We got an email giving us information about the 2013 Brixton Bolt. We’re offering a free meal for two up to the value of £25 for two winners, to be determined on the day.”
As well as bragging rights, there are other prizes up for grabs which will be donated from local businesses including Curry Paradise, Ms Cupcake, Duck Egg Café and Brixton Station Road community markets.
To register, please email brixtonbolt@gmail.com and state your name, race category, and street (residential or work) or school.
