Four people were rescued by firefighters during a blaze at a block of flats in Tulse Hill yesterday.
Crews were called to the fire in a bedsit in Harpenden Road at about 5.30pm. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued four people from inside the block, and another person escaped before they arrived.
One bedsit on the first floor was severely damaged by the fire and another was badly damaged. The fire brigade think they blaze may have been started by an incense stick.
A spokesman said: “Incense sticks must be used with care and must never be left unattended. Always put them out using water when you leave the room and never leave your property without putting them out.”
