The annual Pathways careers event organised by Brixton’s Black Cultural Archives (BCA) this year has the theme Seeing Ourselves, Hearing Our Voices.
The free event has a mission “to educate, inspire and create access to the arts and heritage sector for young people of Black and minority ethnic descent”.
The BCA says it “will shine a light on a variety of career paths whilst supporting sustainable representation and leadership within the arts”.
It takes place on Thursday 15 September from 10am to 4pm at the Museum of London, 150 London Wall, EC2Y 5HN as well as virtually online.
BCA says the day will be filled with engaging workshops, talks, panel discussions and a jobs fair.
The BCA can contribute towards the cost of travel expenses for 30 attendees who are 18 to 25 and live, work, or study in Lambeth – contact info@bcaheritage.org.uk.
Talks include a panel discussion on racial equity in arts and heritage institutions; and How Did I Get Here? A conversation involving the BCA’s interim managing director Lisa Anderson and Gbolahan Obisesan, artistic director and joint CEO at Brixton House theatre.
Workshops include one for freelances; Rhumb/a – “a personal map to navigate work in museum spaces”; and CVs and interviews.
