Silliness we all miss, togetherness we all crave and a gentle reconnection with the humans around us …
You can find them at Brixton’s Bureau of Silly Ideas in the form of Dagny Wants to Dance, a 30-minute interactive show for groups of about six people, designed to reassure our minds that life and joy will return.
Happening over the last weekend of June (26 and 27) the show is staged by Magna, an arts collective “passionate about cross-genre arts with a strong focus on creating safe spaces for under-represented voices”.
Their super-small Brixton audiences– who can book as a bubble if they wish – will be guided by Dagny, a giant bird, “through a world of vibes, moves and joy, combining the silliness we miss with the safe human connection that we crave”.
Four million years BC … “all across the earth’s surface, the silver wings of a billion pirouetting birds seemed to set the planet alight.
“The others marvelled and followed suit. Then came a day when the others danced bigger, brighter, and the birds were … Oh, whatever happened to the birds?”
In 2021 … Dagny, a giant bird, wants to dance and is ready to guide you “through a world of vibes, moves and joy to get you ready for the party of your dreams”.
Magna say their that new show new show “an intimate whirlwind of tender, interactive fun, combines the silliness we all miss, the togetherness we all crave and a gentle reconnection with the humans around us,” exploring “hope, connection and inclusion in an immersive and interactive experience in the heart of Brixton”.
Half-hour performances run from 11am to 9pm. You can book out a whole show for you and your bubble (up to 6 people). For general admission you can book from one to six tickets at £5 each. Bubble bookings are £35 for up to six people. A pay it forward ticket at £12, including processing fees, gets one ticket for you and a free community ticket for someone else.
Performances at 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 3pm, 4pm, 5pm, 7pm, 8pm, 9pm.
Tickets from Eventbrite – and, if you can’t make it yourself, you can sponsor community tickets allowing people to attend who might not otherwise be able to.
Audiences will be invited to wear masks for the whole performance which is in English and BSL – British Sign Language.
