Brixton hairdresser Lathaniel Chambers, owner of Lathaniel’s Couture on Coldharbour Lane, and already a multi-award winner in other contests, is a finalist in the Hairdressers Journal International 2017 British Hairdressing Awards sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional.
The 2017 awards, now in their fourth decade, attracted hundreds of entries in the form of photographic collections. The 75 first-round judges spent many hours marking thousands of individual images.
Lathaniel is a finalist in the Afro Hairdresser of the Year category.
Hairdressers Journal International says the Afro hair market in the UK is worth more than £6 billion, and that “being named as a finalist in this category marks an individual out as an absolute expert in the field and as someone instrumental in creating cutting-edge styles, shaping trends and recognising the importance of diversity in British hairdressing today”.
The Afro Hairdresser of the Year category seeks to recognise the most inspiring stylists working with Afro hair.
The winners of this and 15 other categories, including British Hairdresser of the Year, will be announced at The British Hairdressing Awards at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on 27 November.
