Brixton will say its last goodbye to Darcus Howe tomorrow (Thursday 20 April) when his funeral cortege is due to halt outside 165 Railton Road, the former home of the Race Today collective, where a wreath will be laid.

Race Today magazine was produced in Brixton from 1973 until the late eighties by Darcus Howe, his colleagues Farrukh Dhondy, Linton Kwesi Johnson and others. Its reported and analysed anti-racist politics, campaigns and culture.

The cortege is expected to reach Railton Road at about 10.30am. It will go on to a funeral service in Notting Hill and the West London crematorium in Kensal Green.

People from all walks of life were at the Black Cultural Archives event – Tribute to Darcus, Man Free – event at the Black Cultural Archives.

The Blog’s Delores William spoke to politician Lord Paul Boateng and poet Benjamin Zephaniah at the event.
