Basketball classic draws record crowds at Brixton Rec

A host of Britain’s best young basketball players got the chance to showcase their skills in front of a packed crowd at the Brixton Rec on Sunday. The Hoopsfix Allstar Classic was a big draw with 700 fans, including some of country’s top basketball stars and coaches, attending the event.

Andre Arissol, a new member of Great Britain’s Under-20 basketball squad, was one of several players who put in solid shifts in the Under-17 and Under-19 all-star showcase. The 19-year old, who played a pivotal role in helping Loughborough Student Riders win the Patrons Cup earlier this year, says the tournament gives rising basketball stars a great opportunity to test their skills against other elite youth players.

“I was watching last year so going up against the top players in the country is a great feeling”, said Arissol in his pre-tournament interview.  It’s so exciting to be part of the Hoopsfix All-Star Classic. It’s a massive thing for me to be recognised.”

Hoopsfix.com founder Sam Neter praised fan support for the tournament, which is in its third year.“I’m just humbled by the amount of support from the community this event receives every year,” said Neter.

“To have Great Britain internationals sitting amongst the crowd as well as coaches from up and down the country, friends, family and fans, really embodies what British basketball is all about. We were treated to a wealth of talent on the floor in both games, and I have no doubt, the event will continue to grow for next year.”
