Two children were rescued by firefighters in breathing equipment during a fire at a flat above a shop yesterday.
The children were led to down an internal staircase to safety from the home in Valmar Road, just off Coldharbour Lane, Camberwell. The blaze left part of the four-roomed flat damaged.
Five fire engines and over 30 firefighters and officers from Brixton, Clapham, Lambeth, and Peckham fire stations attended the incident.
The Brigade was called at 4.11pm and the fire was under control by 5.03pm. The cause of the fire is now under investigation by the Brigade’s fire investigation team.
Coldharbour Lane was closed in both directions during the incident, with buses on diversion.
