The third Leander Road street party survived a summer downpour to bring residents together once again.
Five live acts appeared on stage with Brixton-based Mangoseed closing proceedings with a stunning show. The Hobos also played two superb sets to sandwich the popular street-based acts Candytree, Fever Family and Ziad Kay.
It was not just about the music however: there was a real ale and cider tent, bouncy castle, magic show, bicycle clinic and food stalls. Mitie services – with Pedder property one of the event’s two main sponsors – sent a smoothie challenge tent in which revellers could battle against each other, and the clock, on exercise bicycles.
The popular tug-of-war was won by residents on the odd-numbered side of the street, which now leads the annual contest by two to one.
There was more tradition in the shape of the Blackheath Morris Men who gave an amazing demonstration of their art.
The winning ticket for the £500 raffle was drawn by local MP Chuka Umunna, who beforehand was treated to a magic trick by resident Prasanna Kannan.
