Users of the Brixton Pound will get a B£5 bonus when they recommend a friend, under a new plan to boost subscriptions.
New subscribers to the pay by text scheme will also gain B£5 if they have been recommended.
The pay by text system allows consumers to pay for goods using the Brixton pound to local businesses via SMS.
It is currently free and available for use in over 150 businesses within the Brixton area.
They hope the initiative will boost subscription and overall use of the currency amongst local business.
The move comes after the Pound announced plans to launch a local lottery, the Brixton Bonus, with winners of the competition receiving Brixton pounds to be used within the community, and the proceeds being used to support community projects.
The local currency was launched 2009 in response to the recession, with the paper-based note currently being used by 250 local businesses.
