Select/25 – new show at Photofusion

Rosie Barnes

Select/25 is the new exhibition at Photofusion featuring the work of four photographers: Rosie Barnes, Megan Eagles, Jan Enkelmann and Aindreas Scholz. In their very different ways these photographers explore the people and places of Brixton, motherhood, neurodiversity and environmental fragility.

Jan Enkelmann

Jan Enkelmann’s The Triangle refers to the area between Atlantic Road, Brixton Road and Coldharbour Lane. Eight bold, coloured images capture the life, energy, and diversity of the area and the generations of people who spend time in it. There is a very strong sense of place in these pieces reflecting “the pride, dignity and resilience” of Brixton. The images are part of a photobook Jan is about to release entitled The Triangle.

Rosie Barnes’ No You’re Not, Yes I Am sheds light on the experiences of autistic women. Alongside each image is a quite detailed story about the individual women. What emerges from both is a profound sense of the isolation that comes with the condition. These are very intimate, illuminating and touching pieces of work.

Megan Eagles’ Nurture captures the intimate realities, the gentleness and strength of motherhood and pregnancy during the UK pandemic. You get a sense of the enclosed and confined world of mother and baby which was partly natural but partly imposed by the pandemic.

Aindreas Scholz’s The Most Beautiful Anthropocene employs  a very different technique to craft striking visuals that juxtapose beauty and decay. His work highlights the fragility of ecosystems and asks us to reflect on humanity’s profound impact on the natural world.

Audio descriptions for the exhibition have been created by Photofusion member, Marianna Silvanno, enabling all visitors to connect with the stories behind the imagery.

Jenni Grainger, Director of Photofusion said ‘This is our first new exhibition for 2025 and I’m delighted that, through it, we are able to highlight the immense talent and vision within the Photofusion community. Our members form a huge part of our identity and allow us to serve as a hub for the photographic community in South London. The gallery operates as a pipeline for talent in the sector, showcasing individual photographers in a professional setting, sometimes at the earliest point in their careers, and it has been brilliant to work with Rosie, Megan, Jan and Aindreas to realise this for Select/25.’

Select/25 runs until 31 May in Photofusion, Unit 2, 2 Beehive Place, SW9 7QR
