Out of the Shadows is a concert by Brixton-based composer Robert Hugill in celebration of LGBT+ History Month
The concert takes place at 7pm on Friday 3rd February at the Hinde Street Methodist Church, 19 Thayer St, W1U 2QJ and features works by Hugill, including two world premieres, with Ben Vonberg-Clark (tenor), James Atkinson (baritone) and Nigel Foster piano).
The varied programme showcases his exceptional sensitivity to text and melody, which shines through his clear and lyrical musical language.
Robert Hugill said:”Out of the Shadows’ takes the audience from the twilight world of the 19th and early 20th century homosexual to a desperate search for eternal life; from the earliest tentative admissions of same sex attraction to bath house cruising in Imperial Russian and Walt Whitman’s unashamed ownership of his sexuality.”
