Visitors to the next regular monthly tour of Van Gogh House off Brixton Road this weekend (28 & 29 May) will get a special bonus.
An exhibition by Roma Tearne, the house’s most recent artist in residence, has been extended for a month, so visitors this weekend can experience it as well as the tour.
Guided tours of Van Gogh House at 87 Hackford Road, SW9 0RE, take place on the last weekend of each month. They include a short walk to set the context and a longer tour of the house itself.
Tours provide an insight into Van Gogh’s stay there (1873-74) and an opportunity to view artefacts uncovered during the recent renovation and conservation of the house – providing a glimpse into the stories hidden within its walls.
This month, visitors will also be able to experience Roma Tearne’s Archive of A Ghost.
She was writer-in-residence at Van Gogh House in April. Her residency focussed on excavating memories from the time that she lived in Brixton as a child, alongside the histories of others who have lived here – including Van Gogh.
Archive of a Ghost weaves these threads together to offer an exploration of history, memory and fiction.
Tearne reconfigures Van Gogh House as an imagined archive that blurs the boundaries between subjectivity and objectivity as visitors discover narratives that bind these items together in explorations of the historic house.
The £12 adult price includes the tour and Archive of a Ghost. There are discounts for Friends of Van Gogh House.
