Brixton Village traders have entered a new era as they can now sell online for delivery within a three-mile radius of the covered markets.
The servicer will be provided by Good Sixty, an online marketplace for local, independent food retailers, which already operates this service for Borough Market and others in the West Country and Oxford.
The logistics business has a focus on sustainable shopping and delivers goods via zero-emission electric cargo bikes or vans.
People living within a three-mile radius of the market can buy products from selected producers to be delivered to their homes.
The decision reflects the changing nature of Brixton Village, especially after many sellers have had to juggle multiple lockdowns.
Customers can order from a range of long-established businesses including Guzzl, Latin & Caribbean Food Store, and the Tapas Room.
First time purchasers can get 20% off until the end of August by using the code HELLOBRIXTON.
Brixton Village general manager Diana Nabagereka said: “The launch of the website marks a new era for our traders, allowing them to reach a wider, often convenience-led audience with a truly bespoke offering.
“We are excited to partner with Good Sixty, who share many of the same values as us, including championing the best of the best in the food industry, enabling people to shop more conveniently, ethically and sustainably whilst protecting and enhancing local communities”.
Good Sixty was founded in 2016 to help small food retailers in Bristol.
It suggests that being able to buy groceries online from markets like Brixton Village enable people are not able to visit on foot to support local and diverse businesses which, in turn, expand their customer base.
The name comes from a Harvard study that found there is a 60 per cent greater economic benefit to the community if you choose to do your shopping in a local independent shop, like those in Brixton Village, rather than in a large supermarket chain.
