Brixton’s Pure Vinyl jam night hosts EP launch

Blue Lab Beats
Blue Lab Beats

The usual, and always packed, Pure Vinyl Monday night jam tonight (7 October) has an added attraction.

The Blue Lab Beats duo of Namali Kwaten – NK-OK – and David Mrakpor – Mr DM – will be launching a new EP at the Brixton town centre shop.

The London-based jazztronica duo count jazz, hip-hop, soul, funk, R&B, and more, among their influences and have performed at Afropunk, WOMAD and the Jazz Cafe.

The jam was founded three months ago by musician Renato Paris and each week sees an ever-changing mix of performances including vocals, trumpets, saxophones, flutes, drums, keys, bass and guitar.

Have a look below at videos of jams (thanks Dionne Stewart) shot inside the Ferndale Road shop – part of the Department Store headquarters of Squire & Partners architects – and watch out for Pure Vinyl proprietor Claudia Wilson behind the singer in one.

There’s also a taste of Blue Lab Beats …

7.30 – 10pm at Pure Vinyl, 246 Ferndale Road, SW9 8FR
