Brixton-based 198 Contemporary Arts and Learning has announced a new Womxn of Colour Art Award.
Mattie Loyce, curator and artistic programme manager said: “This new bi-annual art award recognises the inequities and additional barriers that Womxn of Colour often face in their practice as visual artists.
“It aims to provide financial and developmental support to assist UK based artists and artist collectives of all ages at a key point in their career.”
Applications are welcome from all artists who self-identify as Womxn of Colour including those who are emerging and self-taught. Submission guidelines can be found on the 198 website.
While its Railton Road premises are being enlarged and rebuilt, 198 will be temporarily based on the sixth floor of International House in Brixton. Work is due to be complete in late 2020.
