James Barr, from Brixton, and his podcast partner Dan Hudson have been nominated for a British Podcast Award.
Their podcast A Gay and A NonGay has been nominated for best entertainment podcast at the inaugural awards. Fans can vote for the pair here.
The podcast began 18 months ago and is self produced by Hudson, Barr and Talia Kraines. A Gay and a NonGay aims to “break down taboos and talk about the real struggles of a 20-30 something in 2017 life”.
Dan Hudson and James Barr say: “In a time filled with a rhetoric of hate from the people in power A Gay and a NonGay challenges differences head on and shows that “no matter who you are, or what you’re into (Bruce Springsteen or Britney), love is love and gay and nongays can be friends”.
The Podcasts Awards celebrate work done by creators across the UK. The panel who select the nominations and winners is comprised of industry experts, including Radiotopia’s Julie Shapiro, Panoply UK’s Ryan Dilley and comedian and podcast presenter Josie Long.
The pair say: “We’re so happy to be part of the British Podcast Awards and recognised in the Best Entertainment category, particularly as an independent production. Our podcast gives a fun but important voice to many important issues around sexuality and friendship that are not represented elsewhere in the mainstream media which makes it even more rewarding to be nominated. It goes to show that you being you is the best you…”
The ceremony takes place on Saturday April 29 at the Platform Theatre in King’s Cross.
