Brockwell event to honour Diamond Dog

Dog-lovers rejoice: the Brockwell Park Dog Show is back on the 10 July. However, the community-run event needs some local love to keep going.

After 10 years, the iconic white picket fence is starting to rot and the volunteers who run the show are asking for donations to replace the affected pieces.

They are hoping to raise £500 to fix the fence but would love to raise enough to invest in a vinyl fence that won’t rot and can also be loaned out by Brockwell Park Community Partners – who support the show – for other events.

The Dog Show – dubbed more “scruffs” than “crufts” – was almost cancelled last year but volunteers rallied to put on a great show.

The Tudor-themed event in 2015 was judged by Oscar-winner Mark Rylance, as well as actress Trudi Goodwin, Elaine Partleton who runs the Flower Lady in Herne Hill and Brixton Bugle co-founder Tim Dickens.

The show runs from 2pm to 4pm – and is free to watch – with registration from 12pm to 1pm. There’s limited places, so its first come first served, and entry is £2 per category which range from handsomest dog, prettiest bitch, cutest puppy, golden oldie to best fancy dress.

This year’s judges are yet to be announced but the show’s theme this year will honour the late legendary local and diamond dog lover, David Bowie.
