A corner of south London will become part of the Middle East later this month when South Social Meets the World comes to the Dulwich Constitutional Club.
Each month South Social, run by Brixton resident Paola Melli, chooses a different country or region to explore through film, food and music.
The first event of the monthly festival celebrating London’s cultural diversity visited Brazil and took place at Brixton East in April with a premiere of Sandra Kogut’s film, Campo Grande and live bossa nova.
Melli said the festival was the culmination of a lifelong passion for promoting diversity. It is an offshoot of the South Social Film Festival.
On Friday 27 May South Social Meets the World will be dedicated to the Middle East and especially Iran. It will show Iranian director Jafar Panahi’s latest film, Taxi Tehran, winner of prizes all over the world. Taxi Tehran has been described as a love letter to cinema, filled with Panahi’s love for his art, his community, his country and his audience.
Regional Persian food and drinks will be served throughout the evening and the screening will be followed by live music.
Doors open at 7pm with the film at 7.30pm followed by a live santur recital by Peyman Heydarian at 9pm.
£15 including film, music and food.
Dulwich Constitutional Club, 33 East Dulwich Grove, London SE22 8PW.
