Tuesday 5: Join the Brixton Library book group with fellow book lovers and chat about good books. Free. 7pm to 9pm.
Wednesday 6: During the Easter holidays the South London Botanical Institute is offering two sessions of plant-based arts and crafts in the house and garden for kids. Refreshments £2 per child. £5 for 3 children. Places limited, booking recommended 020 8674 5787. 10am to 4pm.

Friday 8: Historian and curator of current exhibition Black Georgians, S I Martin explores the untold stories of the black sailor communities that settled in towns and cities around England. From the 16th to the early 20th century sailors of African origin were a principal element of the Royal Navy and central to the development of black communities and black political thought in Britain. £7. 7pm to 9pm.
Friday 8: Bring your children to learn how to make their own chocolates during the Easter holidays, such as lollipops, moulding, tempering and shaping their chocolates by hand. The Chocolate Museum, Ferndale Road, will provide you with different fillings, decorations and lolly sticks to make beautiful and delicious creations. £9.50 per child. 3pm to 4pm.
Friday 8: Ibibio Sound Machine returning to Hootananny for a homecoming of epic proportions. Joining the West African Soundclash masters will be the new Tru Thought’s signing Lakuta and the Digital Dubs starlwart, direct from Brazil, Jota 3. Free before 10pm. £4 after.
Saturday 9: On the second Saturday of the month, Station Road by the Brixton Rec is lined with handmade craft, contemporary art and new fashion from independent designers and makers at the Brixton Makers’ Market.
Saturday 9: You can join Brixton Society’s Brixton Markets Heritage Walk at 2:30pm and learn how Brixton became (and still is) south London’s shopping hub.
Saturday 9: Upstairs at the Ritzy presents Brixton Youth Open Mic: Dancers, comedians, poets, singers, musicians and actors all welcome to join the friendly, welcoming and non-competitive environment. They’re even going to try and get some bands together … so if you play guitar, bass, drums or any other instruments, bring them along and they will try and hook you up to form a band in the near future. This is a family and community event. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Free. Sign-up: 1.30pm. Event: 2pm to 4.30pm
Saturday 9: Electronic Sessions hits its 10-year birthday in April and, to celebrate, Brixton Jamm has invited them to do what they do best – party. They’ve hand-picked some of their all time favourite DJs, some newer kids on the block and some well known back-to-back pairings, with Guy J on hand for a five-hour set. £12.50 to £20. 10pm to 6am.
Sunday 10: Rootmaster presents the James Lascelles Quartet: world music, folk, jazz and Anglo-Caribbean grooves from a talented and experienced quintet. Look forward to an evening of blissful, relaxing sounds. Hootananny. Free. 8pm to midnight.
