Another local Labour Party organisation has come out against Lambeth council’s plans for its libraries and backed an alternative plan written by its head of libraries, Susanna Barnes,
Members of Friends of Lambeth Libraries who leafleted the Dulwich and West Norwood Constituency Labour Party general committee meeting last night (21 January) said it had voted by 16 for and eight against with one abstention, despite the presence at the meeting of Lambeth council’s leader Lib Peck.
Herne Hill and Thurlow Park ward Labour parties have backed similar resolutions.
They call on the Labour-controlled council to reverse its decision to turn three of its ten libraries into gyms with unstaffed book areas run by its leisure provider GLL and, instead, to develop the Barnes proposals.
