Owners of cats and other pets across south east England are being warned of a wave of killings and mutilations – two of the most recent in West Norwood.
South Norwood Animal Rescue and Liberty – SNARL, a small animal rescue organisation, has issued an alert about what they call the “M25 cat killer”, known previously as the Croydon cat killer.
In a Facebook post, SNARL said there had been about 40 cases of pet killing and mutilation in Croydon and nearby areas in the past two years and that it had reports of other cases as far back as 2008.
It said there was evidence to suggest that two rabbits killed a few weeks ago and two puppies killed and left in a South Norwood park two years ago were also victims of the killer.
It listed injuries typical of these cases:
- Slashed neck/decapitation
- Slashed belly
- Tail removed
- Leg/tail removed
- Any other injury which looks like it is a knife wound.

“This case was brought to our attention by the community and we are pretty sure that it will be solved as a result of the community’s efforts,” said SNARL’s Boudicca and Tony.
The animal rights campaign PETA has offered a £2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killer.
