On Wednesday 17 June Laid Bare Presents returns to Brixton East to showcase seven acts over two floors of the stunning Brixton venue. Our gig writer Petra Gent looks ahead.
Laid Bare Presents is hosted by local musician Rami Radi, who has again brought together an eclectic mix of local performers for the evening. This is the fifth time Laid Bare has showcased at this former 19th century furniture warehouse and the evening should have something to please most tastes.
Harry Keyworth is a singer-songwriter who uses ‘intricate slap guitar and smooth falsetto’ to enhance his detuned acoustic guitar alongside piano and percussion. He has recently played with Emily Teague in Bristol and has played a few Laid Bare nights in the past.
Hot-footing it from a performance in Reading, Burnz are a four-piece indie outfit with a definite rock vibe and ambitious vocal ranges. A band to get the room’s attention and the audience jumping.
Laid Bare are giving us a real treat with the appearance of Adam Harmer from Fat White Family performing as One Man Destruction Show. With a genre description of garage/rock & roll/sentimental childishness/blues this is sure to be a performance that enthrals!
Gabriel Moreno returns to Laid Bare to entertain the audience with his always humorous and often self-effacing brand of spoken word/poetry. Originally from Gibraltar, Gabriel is also a singer-songwriter who ‘fuses Mediterranean rhythms with indie-folk arpeggios performed with a classical guitar’.
Our Man In The Field is another Laid Bare regular and receiving airplay recently on BBC 6 Music. A singer-songwriter performing with guitar, he cites his influences as ‘the open spaces of the North East coast and the raw energy overflowing into London’s skyline, and all the people in between.’
Also performing is Sadie Walker, whose smoky vocals have previously charmed Laid Bare audiences and should bring a mellow vibe to the night.
Rami is also pleased to include on the line-up Vincent Burke, who is returning since playing at the first ever Laid Bare nearly two years ago. On vocals and guitar ‘his style is uncomplicated yet dulcet’ and having enjoyed airplay on BB 6 Music and Radio 3 this will be a welcome return to the showcase event.
Doors are at 7pm. Find out more on the Laid Bare website.
