A community orchard in Brixton has planted its first trees, thanks to the hard work of a local community group and the support of Helping Britain Blossom.
The new orchard at Holmewood Gardens is one of 100 set to be created and restored across the UK by 2017 as part of the Helping Britain Blossom project.
There were seven fruit trees planted on the day: a quince tree, two plums, green gage, a damson, an elderberry, two apples and a pear.
Helping Britain Blossom said: “It’s really exciting for the community to have this as the orchards can really help to bring communities together and people can have access to free fruit too.”
