Locals have given a record-breaking amount to the local Foodbank at Tesco donation points in Brixton and Streatham this winter. A weigh-in earlier this week revealed that a staggering 5,509.7 kg, or around six tonnes, of food was given at the end of November by Lambeth shoppers.
Jon Taylor, Brixton foodbank manager, said: “A massive thank you once again to Tesco and their staff, our volunteers and the people of Lambeth.
“Our warehouse looks like an ant’s colony as volunteers sort the food and prepare for Christmas! We have already prepared over 150 hampers and the scale of the operation is definitely something to shout about! See for yourself what is going on in the back streets of Streatham!”
If you want to find out more about where and what to donate, visit the foodbank website here. They are in need of socks and gloves to give out over winter, as well as food, so be sure to give what you can.
