On Saturday 13 December, young break dancers and hip hop dancers of all styles will descend on Brixton for Step into Battle, a street dance display and competition at Evelyn Grace Academy, between 12.30pm-5pm.
The dancers have all been receiving specialist dance training at their schools as part of Step into Dance, a partnership between the Jack Petchey Foundation and the Royal Academy of Dance. Step into Battle is an annual event where all those with a flair for street dance come together to share their skills and battle it out on the dance floor.
Hosted by Evelyn Grace Academy, their crew, Flow, will be aiming to defend their Mixed Crew Champion title, seeing off challenges from school groups from Woolwich, Croydon and Haringey among others to keep the title in Brixton.
Judging the battles will be three top dancers from the UK street scene: Kloe Dean, Abdul Ali and Mr Ben and music will be provided by a live DJ and MC.
Step into Dance Programme Officer, Miranda Peake, is anticipating a great show this year: “I’ve seen some of the crews perform at other events and they truly are phenomenal. They’re up there with the best.”
Admission to the event is free but with a suggested donation of £3 per adult. Find out more about Step into Dance and Step into Battle here.
