The Brixton Blog caught up with upcoming young London rapper Tega Akpod, who has recorded at Brixton’s Raw Material studio, to find out what she’s up to and what we can expect from her in future.
When and why did you start rapping?
Two and half years ago, I started to take rapping seriously at the age of 16 years old. I started off by singing, then by writing poetry then I got into rapping. I rap and write about my life, love and the people around me.
Describe your music.
The music that I usually make has an old-school hip-hop flavour. I admire artists such as Suli, Nego True and Lauryn Hill.
What are you up to at the moment?
I’m currently working on a new EP which should be out early next year. I’m also studying at college!
How did you find Raw Material?
I enjoyed recording at Raw Material, their studio is fantastic plus the producer was really friendly.
What is your dream?
Hopefully, if I will be able to go into music full time – if it’s meant to be it will happen. My dream is to make a positive change in the lives of people around me, hopefully have my own charity one day and help people who are less fortunate than me.
Where can we buy or listen to your music online, and find out more about you?
You can find me on SoundCloud, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as Mikaylaa_lee.
