An explosion at a house in Brixton this morning blew the roof off and left window frames and debris spread across the road.

Firefighters were called to the blast in Abbots Park, near Tulse Hill, just after 11am.

Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers arrived at the scene.

Station manager Bruce Grain said: “It appears that there was also an explosion at the property. The whole of the roof was destroyed and all of the first floor windows were smashed including one which was blown across the street.

The whole of the building was damaged by the fire and explosion. There are no reports of any injures and fire crews evacuated neighbouring houses as a precaution.

The Brigade called was called at 1105. Firefighters from Brixton, West Norwood and Clapham fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

  1. The man was due to be evicted from his property that day and the ‘explosion’ happened as housing officers turned up to carry out the eviction. Why has this part been left out of the report??

    • If what you say is correct, then this remarkable coincidence would be material to the context of the incident.
