A Lambeth-based charity project has received a £30,000 award for their work with helping young women escape prostitution.
The Spires’ Streetlink project has won this year’s Andy Ludlow Homelessness Awards.
The annual awards, organized by London councils and sponsored by the London Housing Foundation and Shelter, put innovative efforts to tackle homelessness in London in the spotlight.
Award judge and chair of London Housing Foundation, Don Wood, said: “Spires’ Streetlink particularly impressed us for the dedication of its staff and volunteers.” He commended Spires’ Streetlink for looking at more than just homelessness and tackling related issues as well.
Spires’ Streetlink runs centre-based outreach sessions to help women with a whole range of issues, including homelessness, addiction, childhood abuse, violence, and sexual and mental health issues.
London Councils’ Executive member for housing, Mayor Sir Steve Bullock, said: “This year’s winner, Spires’ Streetlink, is a fantastic example of a project which works with some of the hardest to reach young women in our local community and helps them to get off the streets and into a safe, positive environment.”
