Some schools in Brixton closed early this afternoon as children and adults alike headed outside to enjoy a substantial snowfall.
As darkness began to fall on SW2 the snow hadn’t stopped, and if this BBC forecast is anything to go by, it won’t let up any time soon.
On Leander Road, Lambeth snow warden James Cornish has been out gritting the pavement and shoveling the snow to help his neighbours.
Age UK Lambeth today called on all residents to look out for elderly neighbours in the snow.
Julia Shelley, Chief Executive of Age UK Lambeth, says: “The extremely cold weather we’re currently experiencing in Lambeth is no fun for anybody, least of all our neighbours who might find it more difficult to get out and about in the snow.
“Now is as good a time as any to introduce yourself to your neighbour, to check that they’re safe over the winter months, and to get involved in making your community a safer place to be.”
We’ve been out to take some photographs, and there are more below. Keep sending your photos in to us or upload them to our Flickr page.
It’s been snowing consistently all day, but it’s really not “bucket loads”. An inch at most. Seriously.
I agree Steph. Whilst I appreciate and understand it can be difficult for the elderly to get about and we should all be mindful of our neighbours, the comment “no fun for anybody” is a bit silly when the kids are getting out of school early and there is sledging to be done and snowball fights to be had!
“The extremely cold weather we’re currently experiencing in Lambeth is no fun for anybody…” – I think the children in the accompanying picture would disagree!
