Besides turning up the heating and stocking up on thermals from M&S, here are our top five places to stay warm in wintry Brixton:
1. Sauna time
Top spot goes to the Brixton Rec sauna. Costs £5 and you’ll come out toastier than toast. The sessions are divided into men-only and female-only, so watch out that you get the right time. You can find more information on p.12 of this booklet.
2. The Breadroom
Discovered earlier this week – The Breadroom cafe in Market Row has a little heater pumping out heat into the tiny space, making it one of the only places in the market that is actually warm at the moment. Plus we hear they have Brixton’s best croissants (and a French person told us that too).
3. Brixton’s music venues
Sweat away while dancing at Plan b, Dogstar or Hootananny and you’ll soon forget the weather outside. Find out what’s coming up at the excellent new listings site, Brixton Buzz.
4. Ritzy Cinema
Hide from the elements in a warm, darkened room and go watch one of the many great films on on at the Ritzy. This week they’re showing ‘A Dangerous Method’ and ‘Martha Marcy May Marlene’, as well as the re-released ‘Casablanca’.
5. Upstairs bar
Very chi chi, but for a pre-dinner cocktail in warm surroundings, you can’t do much better than the Upstairs bar with its open fire in a moodily lit room overlooking Acre Lane. The bar is an adjunct to the restaurant one floor above.
