Local food business En Root is one of many to have reacted quickly and efficiently to lockdown.
“As a Lambeth-born business we know how important it is to stay strong and united in times such as these,” says En Root’s Nish Modasia.
The company, which began life in February 2016 as a pop-up in Herne Hill, has for a year been based on the borders of Brixton and Clapham as a sit-in and takeaway at 5 Ascot Parade, Clapham Park Road.
Its food truck has been rolling locally for three years and continues to provide mobile food.
But with no events or festivals to cater, En Root was facing a seemingly hopeless summer, but it has been keeping up its service to customers and communities across South London.
As soon as lockdown struck, En Root began home delivery of its “Root Box” fruit and veg selection, meal plans and full menu offerings.
“We limit our service time to ensure we can safely organise our solution plan,” says Nish.
“Three days a week – Thursday to Saturday – we open as a restaurant doing collection/takeaway/delivery, three days – Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday – doing home deliveries of our fruit and veg boxes.
“On our ‘days off’ we have been volunteering where we can delivering PPE to NHS surgeries and clinics, and even managing to provide hot food to some of our more local NHS units to keep key workers nourished and happy.
“It has been a joy to see our work appreciated and this gratitude is something that spurs us on to keep it going.”
