Almost 40 Brixton riders took part when Brixton BMX Club’s Brockwell Park track attracted a strong attendance for Round 2 of the 250 London 2018 series races.
In all, 258 riders both female and male hit the track for a day’s racing in categories ranging in age from under seven to 55 and in experience from novice to expert.
Riders from the home club, Brixton, were there in force, with a record 39 riders competing in an array of categories.
This is the largest showing Brixton BMX Club has had at any race event for many years, with a number of the younger riders competing for the first time.
There was also strong attendance from the neighbouring Peckham Challengers, in particular, as well as riders from Merton Saints, Hayes Hawks, Hackney, Greenwich, Hammersmith, Runnymede Rockets, Knightwood, Club Cyclopark, Bexhill Burners, TNT and Club 365.
Racing was fiercely competitive across all age ranges and all of Brixton’s riders competed hard on their home track and some excelled.
In novice male 7 and under, Alfie Skelton came third for Brixton while in novice male 12-13, Teigan Hastings-Goss won first. In novice male 14-16, the club’s Jaden Higgins was the winner while in novice male 17+, David Radcliffe came third.
Brixton’s Leon Bickelmann came across the line second in expert male 10-11 category and hard on the heels of Peckham’s very experienced Lorenz Patten in first.
Mario Berno of Brixton won the 17+ cruiser category with the club’s Tom Schwimmbeck impressing many with his creditable third place, despite being only 15.
