October 5 to 11 this year is official Wool Week. So Lowie on Dulwich Road in Herne Hill opposite Brockwell Park is celebrating with an “upcycle your jumper” charity workshop in the shop tomorrow (Wed Oct 7) from 18.30 to 21.00.
All proceeds from the £10 fee will go to TRAID (Textile Recycling for Aid and International Development), which has a shop at 2 Acre Lane in Brixton. You can pre-book.
“If you have a moth-eaten, stained or dreary old jumper you think deserves a new lease of life”, then take it along. Or you can just learn a new skill and meet the Lowie team.
They will provide fabric pieces, ribbon and yarns and show you how to upcycle any unwanted garments by learning to embroider a pattern of your choice. Take along any scraps of material, buttons or anything else you think you would like to add.
“Fashion doesn’t have to be throwaway,” says Lowie. “We are committed to slow, ethical fashion; up-cycling, repairing, recycling – anything that prolongs the life of the clothes in your wardrobe and reduces waste.”
