Take One: Thousand Kings: Kwake/Shabaka Hutchings/Karl Rasheed-Abel Trio
A jazz night with a difference. Kwake, Shabaka Hutchings and Karl Rasheed-Abel draw on hip-hop, electronic beats and folk in their jazz melodies. Saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings is a rising star of the free music scene (that’s improvising) in London. It’s well worth going to see this trio play at Upstairs Brixton tonight, especially as it is free entry.
Thousand Kings at Upstairs at The Ritzy, free entry, 8.30pm
Take Two: Stay warm at Rosie’s Deli
If you’re lucky enough not to work in Brixton or if, even luckier, you’re not working today, then Rosie Lovell is serving winter comfort food of the most comforting kind at her deli in Market Row today. There is even a macaroni cheese special for lunch.
