A Brixton resident has been honoured for raising more than £575 for a homelessness charity with his music comedy group.
Glen Guest was presented with the Event Award and commended for outstanding fundraising efforts after raising the cash for Broadway charity, along with his group Heart & Lung Unit Soul Cabaret.
The win follows the homelessness charity setting 10 Challenges for its supporters to attempt throughout the year. The competition was started as a fun way to reach new, creative heights in fundraising.
Speaking about his win, Glen said: “I started thinking last Christmas about supporting a charity that was doing good work in London. I wanted it to be somewhere that I could see our fundraising making a real difference”.
“When I spoke to the team at Broadway, they were so enthusiastic and we’ve now put on a number of fundraisers for them. We’ll be holding another in Soho on Wednesday 5 June so we’ll be hoping to raise even more money for them there.”
In south London, Broadway provides an assessment centre for those at risk of homelessness in Lambeth as well as tenancy rescue and housing advice.
The awards were presented to winners by TV star and Broadway’s patron, Phil Spencer, at an intimate gathering of fundraisers, friends and family in the City of London on Wednesday night.
Other awards included the sports personality award, where winners cycled from London to Istanbul. Winner of the daring award, Jamie Blake, trekked 40 miles across the Peak District in 12 hours, entirely on his own.
