Brixton Chamber Orchestra play classical at the Rec

The Brixton Chamber Orchestra’s spring classical concert will be on the 3G football pitch in Brixton Rec on Saturday 15 March. And on the day the BCO is offering the opportunity to view the behind-the-scenes work that goes into mounting a classical concert.

The concert, Vif et Languissant (lively and languid) features French late-romantic and modern era works by Massenet, Saint-Saëns, and Ravel.

Discover the Orchestra! from 1230 to 1.15pm is a fun, hands-on workshop for 8–11-year-olds where children can explore and try out orchestral instruments, take part in musical games, and experience live music up close.

It will be followed by an open rehearsal from 2.30 to 5pm where you can see how a full orchestra prepares for a live performance. Entry is free, just drop by, no ticket needed.

The day will conclude with an evening (7–8pm) performance conducted by BCO director Matthew O’Keeffe and guest-led by renowned violinist Levon Chilingirian. The concert is free but seats are limited an must be booked in advance. A donation is requested.
