Going underground on Windrush Square

The Windrush Square toilets, being offered for rent for the third time in a decade by Lambeth council, were recently opened for viewing and the Blog took the opportunity to visit.

Closed since the 1980s, they were in a better state than might have been expected.

While there has been some interest from possible commercial users, council officers have also met the Friends of Windrush Square to discuss the future use of the Brixton landmark.

The rent currently being sought is £65,000 a year, plus 10% of the turnover (gross takings) of any business that uses them. The user would also have to pay for the work needed to make the toilets useable.
