Second volunteer planting day in Brockwell Park

Friends of Brockwell Park are organising their second volunteer biodiversity planting day in the park on Saturday 7 December.

Working with Lambeth council biodiversity, the friends are improving the park biodiversity area’s value to wildlife. Mounds and hollows in ths new area are already beautiful, they say, as well as doing the important job of slowing the flow of water down a slope to help prevent flooding.

The first planting day was Saturday 5 October and was a great success with 25 volunteers and two members of the Lambeth biodiversity team planting 1,300 “plugs” (tiny plants) in glorious weather.

There is no guaranteeing the weather on 7 December when friends and volunteers will plant whips (very young trees) and shrubs to provide food and cover for insects and small mammals.
