Brixton Hill residents are invited to join a community bulb-planting session on Sunday (10 November) from 11.30am to 1pm.
The Rush Common Improvement Group is organising the event at Pencil Park (the green space behind the Jebb Avenue/Brixton Prison bus stop), with practical support from Lambeth council’s parks team.
Set up earlier this year, the new community group aims to improve the shared green spaces protected by the Rush Common Act.
They plan to do this through a mixture of volunteer events such as litter-picking and bulb-planting, and by fundraising for bigger projects (likely to include play equipment and seating areas).
No experience or skills are necessary to join on Sunday, and all bulbs and equipment will be provided.
“Putting in these bulbs will really brighten up the Pencil Park, which is a slightly neglected green space between Beechdale Road and Endymion Road,” said Emma Perfect, chair of the Rush Common Improvement Group.
“We would love to see anyone who is able to join us, even if it’s only for half an hour.”
The group will also host a meeting at St Matthews Community Hall on Monday 25 November, from 7 to 8.30pm. This is intended to share progress to date and gather people’s views on next steps.
