London jazz collective Big Massive and former Fela Kuti keyboardist Dele Sosimi are among the attractions at a fundraiser for local music education group Youthsayers.
The event, at West Norwood’s Portico on Saturday 22 June, will also feature Prince Fatty, the Youthsayers band, Brixton favourites Soothsayers including Youthsayers alumni, with label owner and jazz journalist Dom Servini on the turntables.
It is also a launch party for Youthsayers’ debut album – Don’t Blame The Youth – released on 29 June.
Funds raised by the event will go towards running a free holiday course for young people aged 13 to 18.
Participants need to have started learning an instrument, but do not need to be at any specific level.
The course runs on Tuesday 30 July to Saturday 3 August from 11am to 3pm at the Portico. The young musicians will work on a set of tunes – jazz, Afrobeat and reggae.
