Windrush Triathlon Club will host its annual Aquathlon at Brockwell Park on Sunday 16 July – and is inviting everyone in the community to join in.
The Aquathlon includes a swim in Brockwell Lido followed by a run around the park. This provides a safe, traffic-free environment for adults and juniors to race close to the heart of Brixton.
This will be the 11th year of the Aquathlon. The ethos continues to be an accessible and inclusive event for all ages, races, genders and physical abilities.
As this year is the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the first of the Windrush generation in the UK, the club is particularly keen to welcome newcomers to the event to celebrate the diversity of the Brixton community.
The annual Aquathlon is, as ever, accompanied by a TriFit programme where newcomers to multisports can benefit from coaching by Windrush Tri Club’s highly experienced, fully qualified and motivational coaches.
The six-week programme is designed to get anyone from their current level to being race ready, through training in running, swimming and some strength and conditioning –no previous experience is needed.
It is how many of the club’s members got their start, and the cost of the TriFit programme is £25, or £3.50 per session – which is significantly cheaper than any gym class out there.
Windrush Tri Club’s TriFit and Aquathlon are especially aimed at Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities, and the club particularly encourages their participation.
It is always seeking to improve the diversity of its membership, but also in the sport of triathlon in general.
Volunteers will facilitate and co-ordinate the day to ensure that participants are safe and informed throughout the event and the venue offers good opportunities for spectators to cheer on friends and family.
