Lambeth Country Show will not take place in Brockwell Park for a second year running in 2021, but Lambeth council is planning a full-scale virtual event.
The council said today (19 February) that the continuing impact of Covid-19 and uncertainty about when social distancing and other restrictions will be lifted meant it could not organise a physical event.
The free show has attracted crowds of more than 120,000 to Brockwell Park.
Councillor Sonia Winifred, Lambeth’s cabinet member for equalities and culture, said: “It is bitterly disappointing not to be able to put on the physical Lambeth Country Show this year, but it is too important a community event to cancel – which is why we’re working hard to develop an exciting virtual programme.”
The online show will take place on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 July.
Last year’s event was also cancelled, but at much shorter notice, so planning a significant virtual replacement was not possible.
This year the council says it has made funding available to plan an online Lambeth Country Show properly.
Exhibitors and performers will be invited to contact the organising team in the coming months about taking part.
The council said it will work with the borough’s voluntary and community sector, as well as use expertise in the organisation, to find ways of making the online programme as accessible as possible for everybody in the borough’s diverse communities.
