South london-based youth charity BIGKID Foundation has been raising funds from the local community to buy Christmas presents for young people in Lambeth who might otherwise go without.
BIGKID supports teenagers at risk of social exclusion and youth violence. Thanks to sponsored donations the charity was able give gifts including toiletries, school supplies, warm scarves, hats and gloves to teenagers who might not receive a Christmas present.
The gifts were handed out at the charity’s community football, tennis and futsal sessions for boys and girls aged 11 – 25.
Director Helen Marasha said: “It’s really heart-warming to see the community come together to express their love for their local teenagers. When a community values their teenagers, without realising it, they give them the confidence to do good. Sometimes, the simple act of giving a gift can completely change communities and giving is what Christmas is all about. A big thank you to everyone who donated!”
